Drill Press Table

Build a precision drill press table with a large surface, replaceable insert, and front-mounted controls for easy height adjustment and locking.

Take your drill press to the next level with this DIY auxiliary drill press table designed to boost accuracy, convenience, and functionality. This step-by-step woodworking plan features a larger work surface, a replaceable insert, and a precision-aligned fence system — ideal for clean, repeatable drilling.

What sets this custom drill press table apart is its ergonomic front-mounted control system. Instead of awkwardly reaching behind or beneath the table to adjust height or lock it in place, we’ve redesigned the mechanics. A steel locking rod with a side handle simplifies securing the table, while a miter gear system brings the height adjustment crank to the front for easy access — perfect for busy or compact workshops.

The build consists of three major components: a rugged top, a micro-adjustable fence, and a set of bearing blocks to house the repositioned adjustment mechanisms. Built primarily from plywood and steel components, this table is designed to fit our Delta 17-900 model, but can be easily adapted for other drill presses with rack-and-pinion lifts.

Whether you're looking to enhance accuracy, speed up your workflow, or simply make your drill press more user-friendly, this woodworking plan delivers.
